My name’s Leila Shea Christensen and I. Love. My. Life.
I’m a 20-something lawyer chasing big dreams (but not ambulances!) out in Kansas City, Missouri (KCMO for short). I’ve been out in Missouri for over a year now, and I fall more in love with it every day. Until June 2009, I wasn’t a Missouri girl. I was born in Southern California, grew up in Utah and worked in Vegas before coming out here. When I first moved to Missouri, I made my home in a little town in called Bethany, where I lived on the town square above my law office. It was the perfect place to get started, with the added bonus of getting to see horse-drawn carriages from my window on Saturdays. After awhile, I packed up to set up shop in KCMO. I still do business in Bethany, and I love the people there.
My family lives in another small town in Missouri. They’re about halfway between Bethany and KCMO, in a little town called Cameron. Six of my seven younger siblings live there with my parents. (Yes, I’m the oldest. And I never let them forget it.) It’s a family effort to persuade my last sister to get her booty out here to stay. She’s still in Utah, attending Utah Valley University. Dad’s only around half the year because he works overseas on an oil rig as an electrician. 28 days on, 28 days off. He does that so that my mom can be a stay-at-home mom, and I’m so thankful they do that. My parents were high school sweethearts, and they’re still crazy in love. My mom still calls my dad “boyfriend.”
I went to law school (and to undergrad!) at Brigham Young University. My mom and I graduated on the same day with our Bachelors degrees. (She’s way cooler than me – who else do you know that could go back to school at age 38 with 8 kids and come out alive, much less get good grades?) I’m licensed to practice law in Missouri, Kansas & Nevada. I do primarily domestic work – adoptions, child custody/support, petitions for paternity, divorces and modifications. I get to do Guardian ad Litem work too (that’s my favorite!). That’s where you’re assigned to a child (while the parents have their own attorneys). I LOVE my job.
There are so many things I love in my life…. cerulean blue, working out, pasta, cupcakes, country music, long drives, scented candles, dancing, warm socks, lots of blankets, bikram yoga, fantastic heels… the list goes on and on. I enjoy life and I love the people in mine.
