Nothing, right? WRONG!!! That is a picture of my space heater. IN my apartment. And that is the temperature in FAHRENHEIT. I was frozen. (And yes, technically I know that’s not quite freezing. Work with me here!)
Now, I know that I made a choice to move to Missouri. I am also making a choice to stay in Missouri. But I am going to figure out how to stay WARM in Missouri. Or at least not be frozen. :) My plan of attack? Hot chocolate, loads of blankets, and long johns. Yes, I have resorted to long johns… Welcome to Missouri.

INducted anyway. I am now an official member of the Rotary Club and was inducted today. I gave a short spiel about me, paid my dues, and received my welcome kit.
I’ve attended the Bethany Rotary Club as a guest for the past month or so. The members are an impressive bunch. Not only are they professionally successful, they are genuinely good people. I’m excited to be “official” with them now. A special thanks to Ron Cornett, my sponsor (& the president of BTC Bank).

Yesterday, I woke up to 52 degrees. IN my apartment. Enter my new best friend, the Whole Room Heater. This has already been a lifesaver for me. I just might make it through October… but I am a little worried about December. Anyone seeing electric blankets in my future?

So my oven doesn’t work. It hasn’t worked for over two months. But the stove does – so I’ve been making a lot of things on top of the stove rather than inside the oven. I’m getting a new unit – a stove AND oven that BOTH work (it will feel like Christmas, trust me) – sometime within the next week. In homage to my time oven-less, here’s a list of ten things you can make on a stovetop.
- Stir Fry
- Spaghetti
- Omelets
- Mashed Potatoes
- Quesadillas
- Macaroni and Cheese
- Tomato Soup
- Rice
- Quinoa
- Chili

The Bethany Republican Clipper is the official newspaper of Harrison County – and today I made the front page!
Phil Conger (the reporter who wrote the article) did a nice job. I met Phil for the first time at the Bethany Rotary Club and we scheduled a time to meet for an interview. He came to my office last Friday (the paper is published every Wednesday) and sat down with me to chat. His interviewing style was comfortable and friendly. He even took his own photo! I was impressed.
So there you have it – Leila Shea Christensen on the front page.
